Lakebed Alteration Decision Support Tool

Click here to download the Decision Support Tool Installer Package
Version: 2010_P_2_45
Last Updated: 01/31/2011
Size: 32MB

System Requirements
ArcGIS Desktop Software Version 9.2, 9.3, or 10* (from Esri)
including the Spatial Analyst Extension
Microsoft Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / 7
Python version 2.4, or 2.5, or 2.6, or 2.7

(* Note: Some features of the decision support tool require Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) support in ArcMap. VBA is automatically installed as part of ArcGIS versions 9.2 and 9.3, but requires a separate installation step and (no-cost) license from Esri when using version 10)

(Our software has only been tested with an ArcInfo license level, but it may work with an ArcEditor or ArcView license level.)

We are aware that these system requirements (especially the requirement for users to have ArcGIS) present a significant obstacle to many users. In order to make this decision support tool accessible to a wider audience, we are developing a new version that can be used over the Internet, using only a web browser, so that users do not need to purchase an ArcGIS license.

Originally developed at The Institute for Fisheries Research, The University of Michigan School of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Division. The included data sets were assembled from a variety of sources. Please consult the GIS metadata to determine the origin of any specific data set.

Please note that the University of Michigan is not the primary (original) data source for most of the data sets included in this package. Consequently, we have only limited information about the nature of the data. We recommend that users consult the GIS metadata record for each data set in order to find more information about it. For information not included in the metadata record, we recommend that users contact the primary data source directly; contact information has been included in the metadata record for each data set.

Please note that there are some data sets that we do not have permission to distribute. Therefore, calculations performed using the tool available on this web site will sometimes yield different results than calculations performed with these data sets incorporated.

Users of this information should consult the primary data sources to ascertain the suitability of the information for their own decision-making needs. All data sources, and the analysis methods used by this program, contain some spatial inaccuracy, and as a result, the output of this program must be understood as an imperfect representation of the spatial locations of real objects. Many data sets will contain some errors. Data sources may be updated, as time and other resources allow, to correct errors or to reflect changes in the represented features. Users of this tool must consult the tool's web site in order to see whether a later version of the package of software and data is available. Use of this tool is intended to be supplemented by site-specific studies of environmental and economic effects of lakebed-altering projects; it is not intended to include all relevant factors in its suitability calculation.
